We celebrate a lot of little things in our household. Hailey works a lot longer and a lot harder than the boys did to accomplish little things. If you saw these pictures for a typical child, you would think "oh, big deal". I know that is how I felt with the boys. Yes, they were walking with a toy, but it was never a question of when or if they would walk. You just "assumed" it would be close to a year. With a child with Down syndrome, you are told the average age for walking is 2...some are much older. Hailey will more than likely be a little past that. I'm not anticipating it to be before her second birthday.
With the way little Frankenstein has been acting recently, this made me the proudest, happiest mom in the world this week.
Even after a full therapy session, I was able to encourage Hailey to walk from the corner to the end of our cul-de-sac. She generally only walks about 10 feet and stops.
We are still a long way from walking independently, but we are celebrating! This girl has worked hard!
Michelle, this is AWESOME!!! Way to go, Hailey! Celebrating for you over in Sharonville!

ReplyDeleteThe pictures from this post and the one before are so awesome! I am looking forward to the walker milestone, and the standing one. Go Hailey!
ReplyDeleteThere were days we didn't think she would stand and then days that we didn't think she'd use a push toy...now there are days independent walking seems like it will never happen. Ughhh....to live life on their time can be frustrating!
