31 for 21: Frankenstein Finally Moves

Yes, I know...odd analogy, but if you could have seen Hailey for the last week and half, you would understand.  Hailey recently started wearing ankle/foot orthotics.  When she stands, her ankles pronate (roll in).  It is making it very difficult for her to start walking.  It causes her to put all of her weight onto her toes or all on her heels...which makes it difficult to take steps.

The boys chose her pattern.

Little miss was getting along fairly good before her new orthotics.  She was cruising furniture, standing some independently, stepping from one piece of furniture to another and walking with her walking toys.  Unfortunately, that all ended once Hailey started wearing her new shoes and orthotics (she acted like she had concrete blocks on her feet!)...until today.

Hailey had therapy through EI today.  I voiced my disappointment in Hailey's movements or lack of movements recently.  It is so frustrating to go backwards in development.  Well in true Hailey fashion...she made me look like a fool.

She stood for quite awhile and played ball with her brother and cruised around the table.

There is nothing I love more than this girl proving me wrong!!!!!

  1. This has me nearly in tears! So proud of her! Wyatt will get his Sure Steps soon and I'm hoping they make a difference. I'm glad you posted this so now I can brace myself for any (hopefully) minor set backs as Wyatt gets used to them. He is cruising, changing direction, standing with minimal support and walking while holding our hands. I know 'almost there' can seem like an eternity for some but I'm getting so anxious to see this kid walk! Thanks again for sharing!

    1. Wyatt may not pull the stubborn stuff that Hailey has pulled, but in case he does...don't get discouraged. Today and yesterday we had her walking around outside with her push toy stroller up and down the sidewalk. Not huge distances, but definitely progress!!!! Good luck!

  2. She looks so grown up! Ben won't even pull up yet - he doesn't like to put any weight on his feet at all. We're hoping to start private PT next week.

    1. Do you have the Gross Motor book? It does give activities to help and our PT did help. He will get there!!!! We joke that we all live on Hailey time now!

  3. Ha! Cora got fit for her Sure Steps yesterday. I chose butterflies and pink straps. Can't wait to see my own Frankenstein start moving like yours!

    1. Good luck! I definitely recommend tie shoes if you can find them. It took Hailey 30 seconds to undo the velcro.
