Today we had a typical Saturday...soccer games for both boys. We were at my oldest son's game when my husband and I noticed a little girl from Brayden's class who happens to have Down syndrome. I emailed her mom last week after we received her note in his backpack. I decided to go introduce myself. Hailey and I slowly headed towards her...I wasn't even positive I knew who the mom is. Luckily I found the right mom :-) She gushed over Hailey and we discussed her daughter, school and life with a child with DS in general. I did shed a tear or two talking about the girls. The mom said that they expect the same from their daughter as they do with their other two children. There are concessions made with a few things as needed but she has chores, homework and is disciplined the same. She said she pushes her because if they don't, who will?
I was very excited to see the little girl and talk to her mom. She told me to call or email anytime. She commented that we all have to support one another because we all understand the ups and downs. This lovely mother stressed that the joys are immeasurable and almost indescribable.
I left her with a very calming feeling. Most of the moms I have spoken with have little ones close to Hailey's age. I loved watching her daughter warming up before her soccer game. OK...I'm having trouble describing how it made me feel. I hope some of you reading will understand it.
Here are a couple pics of little peanut. We have been busy with family in town. This is what Hailey looks like after two days of mamaw, papaw, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She's been charming them though....she loves flashing those dimples and "chatting" with them.
Those are awesome conversations, aren't they?! Love the sleeping pictures...those are my favorite!
